On the morning of July 5, 2024, ZHOU Zhiwei, Secretary General of the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center (LMC) led a 4-person delegation visiting NHRI. DAI Jiqun, President of NHRI and GAO Changsheng, Deputy Director General of Dam Safety Management Center (DSMC) of Ministry of Water Resources, attended the exchange.
President DAI warmly welcomed the delegation to visit NHRI. He introduced the development history, scientific and technological achievements, and international exchange and cooperation of NHRI since its establishment, with a focus on the active participation of NHRI in the cooperation of Lancang-Mekong water resources and the service to national diplomacy in recent years. He stated that since the establishment of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Mechanism, with the strong support of LMC, NHRI had actively participated in policy dialogues and technical exchanges on Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation. A series of Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation projects have been implemented, including Construction and Demonstration of Dam Safety Assurance System in ASEAN Countries, Lancang-Mekong Dam Health Examination Action, Multilateral Sharing and Capacity Building of Hydropower Green Development Technology, Pilot Projects of Hydrological Data Observation and Transmission Technology in Lao PDR and Cambodia, Demonstration and Application of Photovoltaic Water Lifting Irrigation Technology in Mekong Countries, and Construction of Energy-Saving Seawater Desalination Demonstration Project in Islands by Using Wind-Solar Hybrid Energy. NHRI also carried out technical trainings and science popularization activities, making positive contributions to promoting the upgrading of Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation, and helping to build a more peaceful and prosperous Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future. He expressed the hope to further strengthen cooperation with LMC, exert the unique advantages of NHRI and DSMC, and actively participate in Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation.
Secretary General Zhou introduced the new situation and progress of cooperation on Lancang-Mekong water resources, and expressed his gratitude to NHRI and DSMC for their support and assistance in the work of LMC. He hoped that on the basis of good cooperation with the Mekong countries, NHRI would further strengthen communication, deepen practical project cooperation, help the Mekong countries improve their water governance capacity, and provide high-quality services to the "Belt and Road" building.
After the exchange, the delegation visited Tiexinqiao Water Experiment Center of NHRI and learned about the construction of relevant test halls and the research of international consultancy projects.
