Li Guoying met with Peruvian Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation

On July 4, Mr. Li Guoying, Minister of Water Resources of China, met with Mr. Manero, Peruvian Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, in Beijing. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on China-Peru cooperation in water sector.

Minister Li briefed the achievements and experience of China’s Ministry of Water Resources in the fields of promoting water source projects, water transfer projects and irrigation district construction, as well as ensuring national food security, under the guidance of President Xi Jinping’s water governance principles of “prioritizing water conservation, balancing spatial distribution, taking systematic approaches and promoting government-market synergy”. Moreover, he stated that China and Peru are confronted with many similar challenges in water resources management, and China’s Ministry of Water Resources stands ready to enhance bilateral exchange and cooperation, so as to contribute efforts to the development of China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership.

Minister Manero noted that Peru highlighted agriculture irrigation and pushed forward the construction of agricultural irrigation projects. He further spoke highly of China’s irrigation achievements, and expressed willingness to deepen cooperation and learn from China in the spheres of agricultural irrigation techniques and experience.

After the meeting, both sides signed the Implementation Plan of MOU on cooperation in the field of water resources between Ministry of Water Resources of China and Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation of Peru (2025-2028).
