Synchronous Check of Water Level While Measuring Flow Since July 17, 2020, heavy rainfall has occurred again in the upper reaches of the Huai River. Affected by this rainfall, the water level at the Wangjiaba Hydrological Station on the mainstream of the Huai River has continued to rise. At 2 am, July 20, the water level at the Wangjiaba Hydrological Station exceeded the design safety water level and continued to rise. And at 8:32 am, in accordance with the order of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, the Wangjiaba Sluice opened for flood discharge to the Mengwa flood detention area at a water level of 29.75 m. On July 19, entrusted by Anhui Provincial Hydrological Bureau, NHRI immediately dispatched technical experts such as TANG Wei, LI Yatao, SU Wei, TIAN Yaqi to the site to provide technical support. From the beginning of the flood discharge, NHRI experts, technicians and staff of the Wangjiaba Hydrological Station checked the water level in real time on site under the scorching sun, using the self-developed automatic hydrological cableway control system and UAV flow measurement system. After everyone's joint efforts, valuable correlation data was obtained, which provided flow data for the flood discharge to the Mengwa flood detention area. Meanwhile, time for people evacuation from the flood detention area was calculated. NHRI experts further accumulated experience in emergency monitoring of flood flow.
