Flood Disaster Risk Assessment Project for Phase I Eastern Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project Passes Review

On July 29, 2025, China South-to-North Water Diversion Eastern Route Co., Ltd. (CERC) organized a review meeting in Nanjing for the Flood Disaster Risk Assessment Project for Phase I Eastern Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project, undertaken by NHRI. The project was approved upon review. WANG Yong, Deputy Director General, Department of South-to-North Water Diversion Project Management, Ministry of Water Resources, LIU Liuyan, Director General of Dam Safety Management Center (DSMC) and Vice President of NHRI, and YANG Yuanyue, Deputy Director General of DSMC, attended the meeting. The session was chaired by YU Pengtao, senior official from CERC.

A review panel consisted of five experts, including WANG Yisen, Senior Engineer (professor level) and Deputy Director of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project Expert Committee, and DUAN Hongdong, Senior Engineer (professor level) and member of the Committee. During the review meeting, NHRI project team presented the project overview, risk assessment methodology, key findings, major conclusions, and suggestions. After thorough discussions and inquiries, the expert panel and attendees unanimously agreed that comprehensive and well-focused deliverables had been developed, scientifically sound methods employed, credible and reliable conclusions produced, highly practical risk management measures proposed, and all tasks outlined in the technical framework fully accomplished. The project passed the review.

Building on the results of the Safety Risk Assessment Project of Phase I Eastern Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project completed by NHRI in 2024, this project, focusing on the characteristics of flood disasters, conducted thorough and systematic risk assessment. The outcomes will provide scientific support for flood control during flood season and risk management of Phase I Eastern Route project, to ensure its safe operation and stable performance.

Over 30 persons attended the meeting, including leaders and representatives from project operational management institutions, such as China South-to-North Water Diversion Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Water Source Co., Ltd. of CERC, Shandong Main Line Co., Ltd. of CERC, and Huai River Harnessing Project Construction Administration Bureau of the Huaihe River Commission, and responsible persons and technical leads from relevant departments of NHRI.
