Label for Water Training and Education
Recently, NHRI's PH.D. Programme in Hydraulic Engineering was officially awarded the Water Training and Education Label jointly conferred by the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (UNESCO-IHP), making it the first program in China and the sixth globally to receive international recognition from a water-related academic organization.
On June 11, 2025, during the 50th Anniversary celebration events of UNESCO-IHP held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, IAHR President Philippe Gourbesville and IHP Secretary-General Abou Amani jointly presented the certification to WANG Zongzhi, Deputy Director of Hydrology and Water Resources Department of NHRI, marking the official conferment of this international accreditation.
The Water Training and Education Label is a globally recognized labelling system for education and training in the water sector. With core evaluation criteria of curriculum scientificity, faculty internationalization, research-practice integration, and graduate competitiveness, the label aims to align water education with global frontier practices and cultivate professionals with a global perspective.
Since its establishment in 1935, NHRI has consistently dedicated its efforts in advancing the frontier of water science and technology, developed distinctive strengths in cultivating postgraduate students in water resources disciplines, and remained committed to delivering high-level, specialized professionals for water resources, transportation and energy sectors. The Label highlights NHRI’s comprehensive strengths in water resources discipline development, scientific innovation platforms, and international collaboration. The Label not only affirms the talent cultivation quality of NHRI over the past 90 years, but also marks a groundbreaking milestone for China's water education within the global certification system.
Building on this milestone, NHRI will further optimize the curriculum system, deepen cooperation and exchanges with world-renowned universities, research institutions and international organizations, and strive to cultivate high-level water professionals with both solid expertise and a global vision.
