Final Review Meeting of CAST Decision-Making Advisory Expert Team Project Held in Nanjing

On March 28, 2025, the China Society for Hydropower Engineering (CSHE) held a final review meeting of the 2024 Second Batch Decision-Making Advisory Expert Team Project of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), namely Digital Twin-Oriented Intelligent Dam Construction and Renovation undertaken by NHRI, in a hybrid mode in Nanjing. The meeting was chaired by LI Shidong, Deputy Secretary-General of CSHE. GAO Changsheng, Deputy Director General of the Dam Safety Management Center, the Ministry of Water Resources, delivered a speech on behalf of the implementing organization. The review expert panel, Chief Expert of the Decision-Making Advisory Expert Team, SHENG Jinbao, and core team members participated in the meeting.

After listening to the team's report, the expert panel had an in-depth discussion on the key technologies for intelligent dam construction and renovation, challenges and development path, and put forward suggestions on how to further improve the research results.

The expert panel unanimously believed that, on the basis of extensive investigation, the Decision-Making Advisory Expert Team had expounded the necessity and feasibility of intelligent dam construction, summarized the latest progress achieved in the field of intelligent dam construction in China, analyzed the technical demands for intelligent dam construction, and identified the key technical constraints and equipment gaps. In addition, guided by the “perception-analysis-control” technological closed-loop framework, the team has put forward six development suggestions for intelligent dams. These systematically structured and hierarchically organized suggestions have provided a scientific framework for intelligent dam construction and renovation. The research achievements have demonstrated both strategic foresight and practical guidance, reflecting the distinct characteristics of “technology-driven innovation, problem-oriented methodology, and holistic system architecture”, which will significantly promote the technological innovation of dam engineering technologies in China.
