On January 10, 2025, Dalian University of Technology, the lead institution of the "Green Port Construction and Ecological Security Guarantee Technology" project of the National Key Research and Development Program during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, organized a performance evaluation meeting for the fourth sub-project "Research on Impact of Port Construction on Marine Ecosystems and Restoration Technologies" in Dalian. The sub-project is led by Prof. Yuncheng WEN from NHRI River and Harbor Engineering Department. Members from the project and sub-project team, and review experts from relevant fields participated in the discussion and evaluation at the meeting.

This sub-project focuses on the impact of port construction on marine ecosystems and restoration technologies. After three years of research, multiple important achievements have been made. A simulation and identification system of water environment and ecological dynamics in port areas has been constructed, and technologies for the resource recycling of dredged soil and the associated restoration of dredged soil disposal sites, as well as the protection technologies for typical sensitive marine organisms in port areas, developed. A technological system for collaborative protection, restoration and reconstruction of habitats in the sensitive coastal zones has been formed. These technologies have been successfully applied and verified in ecologically sensitive port areas such as the Skikda Port, Algeria, under the "Belt and Road" initiative. The research results of the sub-project have successfully passed the performance evaluation, laying a solid foundation for the promotion and application of the technologies in the future and marking an important step forward in the research of green port construction and ecological security guarantee technologies at NHRI.
