China Special Session
On September 12th, China Special Session of the ⅩⅤⅢ World Water Congress was held in Beijing with the theme of "Chinese Water Practices and Global Water Governance". The event featured prominent figures such as LI Guoying, Minister of Water Resources, P. R. China, Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing, Indonesia, and Loïc Fauchon, President of the World Water Council, who delivered guest speeches. DAI Jiqun, NHRI President, participated in the panel discussion as a representative of Chinese water research institutions.
The Session was co-chaired by WANG Daoxi, Vice Minister of Water Resources, P. R. China, and Siddharth Chatterjee, United Nations Resident Coordinator in China. The delegates of relevant departments of the Ministry of Water Resources, P. R. China, the Yellow River Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, P. R. China, China Three Gorges Corporation, and the representatives of governments of the Netherlands, Uruguay, Turkey and Hungary made keynote speeches. Additionally, representatives from international organizations and research institutions participated in the panel discussion.
Following the keynote speeches, participants engaged in profound discussions and exchanges covering topics such as China's water governance principles, practices and experiences, global challenges to water governance, and the initiatives put forth by Minister LI Guoying during the United Nations 2023 Water Conference.
During the panel discussion, President DAI Jiqun introduced the fruitful scientific research achievements and long history of international cooperation of NHRI, which has been conducting long-term organized scientific and technological research and development focusing on major national needs. He called on international organizations, research institutions, universities and enterprises to strengthen international cooperation and exchanges, and proposed to share successful Chinese policies, technologies, scientific products and management experiences with the world and learn good water control practices abroad to contribute to achieving the water-related goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The objective of China Special Session, where global knowledge and efforts were harnessed to address the issues concerning water disasters, water resources, water ecology and hydro-environment, was to facilitate the exchange of experiences and practices among countries dealing with common challenges and achieving sustainable utilization of water resources, and ultimately, to advance the achievement of the water-related goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development within the designated timeframe.
