From July 9 to 15, 2023, the 19th China Maritime Week was held in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, with the theme of "Sailing a new idea, ushering a new pattern”. CAE Academician ZHANG Jianyun, NHRI President DAI Jiqun, CAE Academician and NHRI Chief Engineer HU Yaan and other experts attended the series of activities of the China Maritime Week 2023, and a number of scientific research achievements were exhibited in the week.

On July 11, China Navigation Day Forum was held. LI Xiaopeng, Minister of Transport, WANG Zhengpu, Governor of Hebei Province, ZHANG Guihua, member of the Party Group and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and other domestic and foreign leaders with International Maritime Organization and World Sailing Alliance delivered speeches either online or offline for the forum. Academician ZHANG Jianyun made a keynote report titled Innovation Promotes the Protection and Collaborative Development of Deep Waterways.

Nautical Science and Technology Exhibition was one of the important activities of China Maritime Week 2023. NHRI attached great importance to the exhibition, and carefully built its exhibition hall, actively mobilizing its various research departments and affiliated enterprises to participate in the exhibition, and selecting nearly 20 scientific research results achieved and complete sets of technologies and equipment developed in recent years to support the high-quality development of transportation, which were comprehensively demonstrated in various forms such as physical items, exhibition boards, videos and intelligent interaction platforms. Hydraulic ship lift, “Yulong” manned submersible, ultrasonic water level gauge, propeller current meter and other technological achievements attracted many visitors to consult and exchange, and seek cooperation opportunities. During the exhibition period, LI Xiaopeng toured around the exhibition area. HE Jianzhong, Chairman of China Institute of Navigation, and other leaders visited NHRI’s booth and gave guidance.

A number of NHRI experts were commended at the 2023 Annual China Navigation Academic Conference on July 12. Nine experts, including WU Shiqiang, HU Yaan, LI Yun, GUAN Tiesheng, FAN Ziwu, WANG Xiaogang, WU Xiufeng, YAN Xiujun and ZHU Lijun, were selected as the fellows of the first batch of China Institute of Navigation. XIA Yunfeng was honored with China Nautical Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution (Individual) Award for the year 2023. WANG Leizhi, and DENG Ya were selected into the 8th Young Elite Sponsorship Program of CAST, and HAN Xun into the first Young Elite Sponsorship Program of China Institute of Navigation. ZUO Liqin, the representative of the winners of the Grand Prize of 2022 Chinese Nautical Science and Technology Progress Award, made a conference report titled Research and Application of Key Technology of Deepwater Channel Regulation for Typical Estuarine Shoals in China.

      China Navigation Day is the only legal holiday for maritime affairs approved by the State Council. It aims to carry forward navigation culture, inherit the spirit of navigation, and publicize and popularize navigation knowledge, playing a positive role in promoting China's navigation cause and building China into a maritime power. Since 2022, the principal activities of China Navigation Day have been expanded into those of China Maritime Week. There were more than 30 special activities at China Maritime Week 2023, with more than 230 participating agencies and institutions. The one-week series of activities fully demonstrated the rich accumulation of NHRI in basic research and key technology research and development, supporting the high-quality development of the nation and the industry, interdisciplinary integration and scientific and technological innovation, further expanding the social visibility and influence of NHRI, and effectively facilitating the promotion and transformation of scientific and technological achievements of NHRI. In the next step, NHRI will further strengthen the deep integration of industry, education, research and application, strengthen innovation-driven leadership, promote maritime technology innovation and product upgrading, popularize navigation culture, enhance the public awareness of navigation and ocean, and continue to provide solid scientific and technological support and technological leadership for the high-quality development of navigation.
