Congress Scene
From July 17th to 18th, 2021, the 4th Congress of China Geodesy and Geophysics, sponsored by the Chinese Committee of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (CNC-IUGG) of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), was held successfully at China University of Petroleum (UPC), Qingdao, China. It attracted more than 3,300 participants, inclusive of the experts, scholars and graduate students from universities and research institutes.
The opening ceremony of the congress was presided over by DANG Yamin, Secretary-General of CNC-IUGG. XIA Jun, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chairman of CNC-IUGG, YIN Lin, Director for CAST International Liaison, LIU Jicheng, Deputy Secretary-General of Qingdao Municipal People’s Government, Kathryn Whaler, IUGG President, YU Xiancheng, Chairman of GNSS & LBS Association of China, ZHENG Yongfei, CAS Academician and Chairman of Chinese Geoscience Union (CGU), and HAO Fang, CAS Academician and President of UPC, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony, respectively. Chris Rizos, President-Designate of IUGG, HOU Zengqian, CAS Academician and Deputy Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, YIN Xingyao, Professor of UPC, JIAO Nianzhi, CAS Academician, and LI Jiancheng, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Vice President of Wuhan University made keynote reports at the general assembly. In the session of academic exchange, ZHENG Yongfei, CAS Academician, Tom Beer, Former President of IUGG, ZHANG Xiaoye, CAE Academician, and LYU Yonglong, Member of the Third World Academy of Sciences made wonderful and in-depth presentations.

Opening Ceremony of the Forum
During the congress, International Youth Forum on Hydrology and Water Resources was held successfully under the guidance of China National Committee of the International Association for Hydrological Sciences (CNC-IAHS). Sponsored by the Commission of Young Hydrologists (CYH) of CNC-IAHS, the forum was held both on site and on line. LIU Zhiyu, Chairman of CNC-IAHS, Viengxai Manivong, Deputy Director-General of Hydrological and Meteorological Department, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Laos, Gil Mahé, Chairman of the Surface Water Committee of IAHS and Chairman of the United Nations FRIEND-Water FIGCC, Young-Oh Kim, Chairman of the Hydrology Subcommittee of Asia-Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), and Amgad Elmahdi, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Office of International Water Management Institute (IWMI) were present and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony of the forum. WANG Xiaojun, Secretary-General of CNC-IAHS, Chairman of CYH-CNC-IAHS and Professor-Level Senior Engineer of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI), presided over the opening ceremony. SHI Jin, Secretary-General of CYH-CNC-IAHS and Deputy Director of National Research Institute for Rural Electrification, the Ministry of Water Resource (MWR), China, and LEI Huimin, Deputy Secretary-General of CYH-CNC-IAHS and Associate Professor of Tsinghua University presided over the academic exchange sessions, respectively.
Academician XIA Jun, Professor LIU Zhiyu and LIU Junguo, Vice Chairman of CNC-IAHS, Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Professor of Southern University of Science and Technology delivered keynote presentations, respectively. Young hydrologists from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Ecuador, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, South Africa, South Korea, Venezuela etc., as well as from China institutions, such as NHRI, MWR Research Center for Climate Change, CAS Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Hohai University and Lanzhou University, conducted on-line and on-site academic exchanges.
CYH was set up in 2019 under the leadership and guidance of CNC-IAHS. WANG Xiaojun, NHRI Professor-level Senior Engineer, was appointed as Chairman of CYH-CNC-IAHS. As one of CYH academic activities, the International Youth Forum on Hydrology and Water Resources aims at building an exchange platform for young scholars in the field of hydrology and water resources to continuously strengthen international cooperation, deepen friendship and reach consensus. At the same time, young scholars from international community are encouraged to pay attention to the frontier issues of climate change, hydrology and water resources and to be committed to jointly addressing water problems in various regions and jointly promoting the sustainable development of water resources worldwide.
