On April 16, 2021, Workshop on Construction and Demonstration of Dam Safety Supporting System in ASEAN Countries, a project under Asian Cooperation Fund, was successfully held at NHRI. Dr. ZHONG Yong, Consul (Deputy Director-General level), Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, Ministry of Water Resources (MWR), Dr. YU Xingjun and Dr. LI Yuanhua, two invited senior experts, attended the workshop chaired by JING Maotao, Deputy Director-General of Dam Safety Management Center (DSMC), MWR. Prof. Chen Shengshui, NHRI President, was also present at the workshop.
Dr. ZHONG pointed out that the project, as an important channel for China-ASEAN water resources cooperation, was of great significance. He hoped NHRI and DSMC, two project leaders, could shoulder their responsibilities, enhance the coordination with domestic and ASEAN partners, give full play to China's advantages in fields of talent, technology, equipment and experience, and make joint efforts to make this project a highlight and model project for the cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, so as to contribute to the national Belt and Road Initiative, deepen China-ASEAN water resources cooperation, and advertise China's achievements in water resources.
XIANG Yan, head of the project management office and Deputy Director of DSMC Department of Technology, introduced the project implementation plan, including project goals and performance indicators, organizing method, task breakdown, working content, schedule, risk analysis and response plan, etc. Experts from MWR, Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center, China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute, Changjiang Institute of Survey, Planning, Design and Research, PowerChina International Group Limited, PowerChina Kunming Engineering Corporation Limited, Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Inc. exchanged their opinions on the implementation plan. They also shared their respective achievements and experiences on cooperation with ASEAN countries, and made suggestions on optimizing and refining the project implementation plan.
President CHEN said that NHRI, as a project leader, would take the experts’ opinions and suggestions into consideration, and perform well its duty. He expressed NHRI would position well the project, refine the implementation plan, lay down supporting measures and innovate working methods. CHEN also said NHRI would actively coordinate with domestic and foreign partners, accelerate the establishment of a unified, coordinated, efficient and pragmatic cooperation mechanism. He pledged to successfully complete the project task and achieve the expected goals.
