Field Investigation
The Meeting
According to the schedule of Guarantee Technology and Equipment Development on Danger Disposal, Development and Utilization of Barrier Dam, a project of the National Key Research and Development Program, led by NHRI, a team of more than 50 researchers, including Design Master ZHANG Zongliang, project leader, and Prof. XU Weiya, project consultant, travelled to Zhaotong, Yunnan Province recently. There they carried out a field investigation of the pilot remediation project of the Hongshiyan Barrier Dam on the Niulanjiang River, and had a coordination meeting for the project implementation from May 5 to 7, 2019.
The field investigation and meeting were jointly sponsored by NHRI and Kunming Engineering Corporation Limited (KHIDI). At the meeting the team listened to the presentations of high slope treatment on the right section of the Hongshiyan Barrier Dam, design of the dam development and utilization, anti-seepage reinforcement of the barrier, design and construction of water diversion and power generation structures, and construction management of the pilot remediation project of the Hongshiyan Barrier Dam by KHIDI, Sinohydro Foundation Engineering Co., Ltd., and Yunan Water Conservancy and Hydropower Investment Niulanjiang Hongshiyan Barrier Dam Engineering Construction Co., Ltd., respectively. The team surveyed the 800-meter-high slope on the right section of the Hongshiyan Barrier Dam, spillway, flood discharge and venting tunnel, diversion tunnel, ground power plant, construction of cut-off wall and curtain grouting, etc. After the on-site survey, the team had an in-depth discussion on the integrated design method of deformation stability and its analysis for the high-steep slope of the barrier dam, and the reinforcement technology of the dam body and its foundation.
The field investigation gave the research team deeper understanding on the development and utilization of barrier dams, anti-seepage and reinforcement of barriers, and high slope treatment, laying a solid foundation for future research.
