On April 17, 2019, a symposium of the Chinese National Committee for International Association of Hydrological Sciences (CNC-IAHS) was held at Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI). Prof. Günter Blöschl, IAHS President, Prof. ZHANG Jianyun, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and CNC-IAHS President, Prof. YU Zhongbo, CNC-IAHS Vice President from Hohai University, Prof. XU Zongxue, CNC-IAHS Vice President from Beijing Normal University, Prof. CHEN Xiaohong, CNC-IAHS Vice President from Sun Yat-sen University, Prof. CHEN Yuanfang from Hohai University, Prof. TIAN Fuqiang from Tsinghua University, and Prof. WANG Guoqing from NHRI attended the symposium.

The symposium was chaired by Prof. YU and Prof. XU. Prof. ZHANG delivered a welcome speech and made a keynote report titled Climate Change and Impacts on Water Resources in China. There were also other 6 academic reports, including Prof. Günter Blöschl’s report, titled Flood Generation-From Raindrop to the Ocean. From the perspectives of hydrological model building and application, flooding mechanism and urban storm flood simulation, simulation and assessment of the impacts of climate change on water resources, hydrological process of headwater catchment in north China, Prof. YU, Prof. XU, Prof. CHEN Xiaohong, Prof. WANG and Prof. TIAN conducted good exchanges, respectively. More than 100 researchers and graduate students from such research institute and universities as NHRI, Hohai University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Sun Yat-sen University and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology attended the symposium as well.

After the symposium, Prof. Günter Blöschl and some participants visited NHRI Tiexinqiao Water Experiment Center (WEC) and Chuzhou Experiment Center (CEC). NHRI experts presented the Institute’s research achievements on high dam navigation technology, hydrological experiment and water resources management, and carried out in-depth exchanges and discussions with the visitors.
