Centrifugal Model Test of Four-Axis Robot

Code for Centrifugal Model Test for Port Engineering

The 2018 Conference on Development and Technology of Smart Ports and the Annual Meeting of Science and Technology Committee of China Ports and Harbors Association were convened in Shanghai on June 25th, 2018. During the Conference, the ceremony of 2017 Science and Technology Awards of China Ports and Harbors Association was also held. The achievements of Research and Application of Centrifuge Modeling Technology in Port Engineering directed by Prof. CAI Zhengyin, Director of NHRI Geotechnical Engineering Department was awarded the first prize. As a main accomplishment institute, NHRI won the second prize for its achievements of Key Technology of Treatment, Design and Construction for Ultra-Soft Foundation Formed by Dredging Mud with Medium and Thick Layers.

As the first accomplishment institute of Research and Application of Centrifuge Modeling Technology in Port Engineering, NHRI, in collaboration with Institute of Systems Engineering of China Academy of Engineering Physics, carried out a large number of geotechnical centrifuge tests on dozens of science and technology projects at national and provincial levels and enterprise-entrusted projects. According to the characteristics of wharves, jetties, revetments and other port engineering structures, the simulation technologies for port engineering foundations, structures, wave loads and excavation and unloading of harbor basins as well as measuring technology were developed. Accordingly, a technical system of centrifuge modeling for port engineering is thus formed. Furthermore, the interaction mechanism between port structures and foundations was analyzed. The key technical parameters of the structures were obtained quantitatively, which directly promoted the development of deep-water sheet-pile wharves, box-bucket foundation breakwaters, bucket-based structures and composite bucket foundations for offshore wind turbines. Remarkable economic and social benefits have been achieved. The research achievements have been incorporated into Code for Centrifugal Model Test for Port Engineering. It has boosted the application of geotechnical centrifuge modeling technology in port engineering. Appraised by experts, the achievements have reached the international leading level.

As a main accomplishment and technical responsible institute, NHRI, in collaboration with Shanghai Waterway Engineering Design and Consulting Co., Ltd. and Wenzhou Oujiangkou Development and Construction Investment Group Co., Ltd., completed the research of Key Technology of Treatment, Design and Construction Technology for Ultra-Soft Foundation Formed by Dredging Mud with Medium and Thick Layers. The research team proposed a vacuum preloading consolidation and design method for foundations formed by dredging mud with medium and thick layers (5m~10m) and a prediction method for soil strength and foundation bearing capacity. Furthermore, new retractable manual plugging board equipment, light plugging board machinery for ultra-soft foundation formed by dredging mud with medium and thick layers, three-dimensional seal joint and new drainage treatment system with vacuum preloading method have been developed. All of these new methods help fill the gap in the treatment, design and construction of foundations formed by dredging mud with medium and thick layers. They have been successfully applied in the first-phase foundation treatment project of New Oujiang River Estuary Area, Wenzhou with remarkable economic and social benefits achieved.
