Water Level and Water Volume Fine Control of Loumen Weir in Huancheng River (Transparency > 1m)
Daytime Scene of Huancheng River (Transparency > 1m) Night View of Huancheng River On-site Dispatching for Clear Water Storage in North Section of Huancheng River by Water Allocation in River Network of Ancient Urban Area From June 23 to 24, 2018, the 20th China-Japan-Korea Environment Ministers Meeting was held in Suzhou, China to discuss and solve regional environmental problems and promote regional sustainable development. As the meeting successfully ended, NHRI has completed the intended stage target with fruitful achievements by undertaking the Water Quality Control Project of Huancheng River in Suzhou. The project has not only improved the water quality and ensured the water environment during the meeting period, but also provided valuable experience and technical verification for the Clear Water Project in the central urban area of Suzhou. NHRI experts have carried out on-site clear water experiments for more than a month, and the water quality in Huancheng River and ancient urban area rivers improves significantly. The transparency of the north section of Huancheng River remains stable over 2500px, and the south section about 2000px. The main water quality indexes, such as DO and NH3-N, all reach the requirements for Class IV, even Class III water. The transparency of ancient urban area rivers is 80 to 100 cm. With more and more fishes and shrimps in the river, residents nearby enjoy fishing and walking on the bank, which enhances Suzhou’s watertown style of “Little Bridges Over Running Streams”. The operation and maintenance costs of the project are relatively low, so after the meeting, it can continue to run as the supporting facilities of the Clear Water Project to improve the water quality of river network in the central area of the city over a long period. Though the meeting came to an end, the world expects the three countries to start their cooperation from Suzhou, to share their cooperative experiences and achievements with other countries, and to promote regional sustainable development. NHRI will continue to improve the river water quality in Suzhou urban area, and to offer suggestions for water environment management.
