Work Meeting

Field Investigation

To better promote the implementation of Capacity Improvement and Safety Guarantee Technology for Long-Distance Water Supply Projects in High-Cold Areas, a project of the Chinese National Key R&D Program, more than 60 experts attended the annual project work meeting in Xinjiang, China from April 10th to 12th, 2018. The meeting was hosted by Prof. CAI Zhengyin, Chief Scientist of the project and Director of NHRI Geotechnical Engineering Department. Each sub-project leader reported the progress of related work and achievements of phased research. The project research targets were further clarified, the relationship between sub-projects and topics coordinated, the problems in the implementation of the project discussed, the work focus of the next phase emphasized, and expected effects achieved at the meeting. ZHOU Bin, Deputy Director of Administrative Center for China’s Agenda 21 and MENG Weichao, Director of MWR Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology attended the meeting and gave instructions to the implementation of the project. Prof. MAO Fenglian, former Director of NHRI Research Management Office, attended the meeting as well and put forward specific requirements on the project management.

During the meeting, the project team conducted a field investigation of the water supply channel in the northern region of Xinjiang, China. Mr. SHI Quan, leader of the second sub-project and Secretary of Xinjiang Irtysh River Basin Development and Construction Bureau, introduced the construction and operation of the engineering. The project team collected a large number of data and information via field investigation, deeply understood the project implementation significance, and determined to work hard to complete the research project.

The project, approved in July 2017, consists of 6 research sub-projects with 10 institutions involved, i.e. NHRI, CAS Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute, Xinjiang Irtysh River Basin Development and Construction Bureau, Northwest A&F University, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Xinjiang Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Yellow River Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., Tianjin University, Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research and Shandong Zhongbo Heavy Industry Machinery Co., Ltd. As a leading institution of the project, NHRI undertakes the 6th sub-project Integrated Demonstration of Capacity Improvement and Safety Guarantee Technology for Water Supply Channel in High-Cold Areas.
