On Apr. 27, 2017, MWR Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology (DICST) organized an acceptance meeting to assess the MWR public-good research project “Key Technology of Early Warning and Mitigation of Reservoir-Induced Disasters in Mountain Flood Prone Areas” in Beijing. The expert panel consisted of experts with MWR, Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, MWR Development Research Center, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, etc. Deputy Director JIN Xuhao with DICST and colleagues from NHRI Department of Research Management and project team attended the meeting. Aiming at the safety of reservoir engineering in mountain flood prone areas, studies on the patterns of disasters resulting from reservoirs in mountain flood prone areas, disaster factor mining technology, safety monitoring and early warning technology and forecasting method, safety monitoring indices and assessment system, quick response and mitigation of reservoir-induced disasters in mountain flood prone areas were conducted by the project. The early warning and disaster mitigation decision support systems were developed, and relevant technical guidelines worked out. The research findings have been applied in the operation management of the Xikouba Reservoir in Yunnan, Yuejin Reservoir in Hainan, Gaolehan Reservoir and Huolinhe Reservoir in Inner Mongolia, with good social and economic benefits and bright promotion and application prospect. The expert panel unanimously agreed that the research tasks had been comprehensively fulfilled with abundant research findings and expected goals after carefully listening to the results report made by the project leader. The project smoothly passed the acceptance check.
