On Aug. 17, 2016, NHRI President ZHANG Jianyun and Vice President LI Yun led a delegation composed by relevant colleagues from Hydraulic Engineering Department, Nanjing R&D Tech Group Co., Ltd. and Rural Electrification Department, inspecting the water quality improvement project of G20 Summit core zone in Qianjiang Century Town, Hangzhou. Director CHEN Guanshui with Agricultural Machinery and Water Resources Bureau in Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou, accompanied the field visit, gave a detailed introduction of the project construction and spoke highly of the work done by NHRI.

The delegation examined the control center and water quality purification engineering of the Qianjiang Project, water quality condition in the rivers surrounding the major venues of G20 Summit and temporary sewage treatment spots in local residence areas. President ZHANG fully affirmed the engineering implementation effects, and emphasized on the preparedness of emergency regulation for safeguarding water environment. He also required NHRI team to be innovative, exploratory and dedicated in hydro-ecological civilization construction by taking this project as an opportunity for business development.

Qianjiang Century Town covering an area of 22.3km2 right on the bank of the Qiantang River belongs to the urban tidal plain river network. Water environmental problems include the high contents of sediment and chlorosity in diverted water, incomplete sewage interception along the banks of rivers, heavy sedimentation in certain river reaches, and degraded water quality, which affects the normal function of river water environment and water landscape. 2016 G20 Summit is going to be held in Sept. 4-5 in Qianjiang Century Town, Hangzhou. In order to realize the goal of “Clean water flowing into the Town”, protect the water environment during the Summit and continuously improve water quality of the river network at Xiaoshan urban area in future, an Implementation Plan of Upgrading Water Quality of G20 Summit Core Area in Qianjiang Century Town, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City by comprehensive treatment of river water quality was jointly developed by NHRI(taking a leading role) and Nanjing R&D Tech Group Co., Ltd. By comprehensive utilization of existing sluice gates and pumping stations at catchment and regional scale, engineering and non-engineering measures for flood control and waterlogging drainage, sewage interception, sediment dredging, water purification and vitalization, and management are taken for realizing efficient utilization of water resources and improving the positive cycle of water environment ecological system.

In spite of tight schedule and heavy tasks, the project mainly include water quality purification of diverted water, water quality protection for rivers, river water vitalization and test run during July to September, 2016. The main indexes of river water in Qianjiang Century Town are ensured to reach to the standards of Grade Ⅲ water in September with a clarity of 1m.
