Presentation

On Oct. 26, 2016, Prof. Marcel Stive, former head of Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), and member of Royal Dutch Institution of Engineers and his colleague Prof. WANG Zhengbing paid a visit to NHRI. NHRI vice President LI Yun met with the visitors, and leaders with NHRI Department of President’s Office, Department of Human Resources and Education, and Department of Hydraulic Engineering attended the meeting.

The both parties recalled the important events of Sino-Dutch water science and technology cooperation, including the cooperation between NHRI and TU Delft or Deltares. Vice President LI suggested that NHRI and TU Delft should further enhance the cooperation and exchange in research and talents fostering by taking the advantages of the both parties’ strengths in the international water science and technology.

During Prof. Stive’s visit, he gave a presentation on Climate Change and Land Use Squeeze: Innovative Solutions to Mitigate Impact on Coasts. His presentation included two parts. The first part introduced coastal and estuarine mangroves in the Mekong Delta. And the second part titled Working with Nature: the Sand Engine Experience introduced the current status of Dutch coasts and solutions to mitigate its coastal erosion so as to protect its coasts.

Prof. Stive answered the questions from the audiences, and had a profound discussion with NHRI young researchers in view of relevant issues. More than 100 NHRI researchers, newly-enrolled staff and graduate students attended the lecture.
