NHRI project team made a report on the phase achievement of the project, and the Municipal Water Resource Bureau reported the project progress and next stage work schedule. Mayor WANG affirmed the work done by NHRI. The flowing water scheme for the ancient urban district was agreed to in principle at the meeting, and the planning of the flowing water scheme of 2016-217 should be worked out by NHRI this year. Before the meeting, Mayor WANG and other officials visited the test sites to investigate their effects. Vice President LI accompanied the visit and introduced the major engineering measures and functions of the project.
The project target is to realize the unblocked flowing water, environment improvement, and stable water quality of the river network in the urban area of Changshu City by systematically optimizing the urban river network, engineering arrangement and operation schedule of existing gates and pumps, and comprehensively improving the capacity of flood and water logging control and drainage in view of urban river network features. The flowing water engineering shall take effect in the ancient urban district by the end of 2015, and in the whole urban area by the end of 2017.
The flowing water scheme for the ancient urban district has been finished at present, and provisional water distribution engineering has passed through the site commissioning in field test stage with initial success. It is expected to fulfill the project target of 2015 ahead of the schedule, which means that river flow velocity will increase to 0.3-0.5m/s without pumping in the ancient urban district, and the water quality in 80% of rivers there will be improved from Grade Inferior V to Grade Inferior IV.
