The 3rd Asia International Water Week (AIWW) Thematic Session 2C Digital Technologies for Water Management and Operation was successfully held in Beijing under the guidance of Department of Water Project Operation Management, MWR, PRC, co-sponsored by Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI) and Dam Safety Management Center, MWR, PRC, on 25 September 2024. More than 50 representatives from China, Sweden, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands and the “Belt and Road” countries participated in the Session. Mrs. WAN Yuqian, Second-level Consul of Department of Water Project Operation Management and Mr. GAO Changsheng, Deputy Director-General of Dam Safety Management Center attended the Session and delivered opening addresses. The Session was co-chaired by Prof. LI Hong'en, Deputy Director of NHRI Department of Dam Safety and Management and Mr. Thanapon Piman, Water Cluster Lead/Senior Research Fellow of Stockholm Environment Institute.
During the keynote presentations, Mr. TAO Yubo, Director of Digital Engineering Center of Yellow River Survey, Planning and Design Institute Co., Ltd., Mr. JIANG Dejun, Director of Information Monitoring Department of National Energy Group Dam Safety Management Center, Mr. Thanapon Piman, Water Cluster Lead/Senior Research Fellow of Stockholm Environment Institute, Mr. Jingon Kim, Senior Manager of Korea Water Resources Corporation, Mrs. Ai Sher, Chief Technology Officer of the TCK e-Solutions Sdn. Bhd., Prof. LI Hong'en and Senior Engineer Mr. HOU Wen'ang of NHRI, Mr. CHEN Mi, Senior Development Manager, RDE, Xylem, China, Mr. WU Su, Chief Designer of Major Tasks in China Electronics Technology Group Corporation and other experts carried out academic exchanges on the latest research results of digital technology applications and practical applications in water system management and operation.
The Session provided a platform for experts from Asian water sciences to share and exchange their views on the practical application of emerging digital technologies in such fields as water engineering design, agricultural water resources management, wastewater treatment, and reservoir safety monitoring, strongly promoted international cooperation among governments, research institutes, management units and renowned enterprises, and contributed to the enhancement of application of modern digital technologies in the management and operation of water systems in Asia.
