On November 16, 2018, a 9-person delegation of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) of Germany, led by Mr. Michael Heinz, Director, Environment, Civil Engineering, Waterborne Tourism, visited NHRI for academic exchange on inland shipping and navigation structures. Prof. LI Yun, NHRI Vice President, met with the delegation, and relevant researchers attended the meeting. They had a deep communication with focus on design and research of high water head ship locks, ship lifts and other navigation structures and reached a consensus on cooperation.
Prof. LI introduced NHRI briefly, and then reviewed the cooperation with BMVI and its affiliated research institutes. Mr. Heinz briefed BMVI, the Directorate-General and its branches. Prof. LI Zhonghua and Senior Engineer SHANG Qianqian made presentations on China's high water head ship locks and ship lifts, and sediment research and waterway regulation of the Yangtze River, respectively. Mr. Dieter Eichler, Director of the New Branch of the Directorate-General in Hanover, introduced the planning, demonstration and design of the Lüneburg Ship Lock in Germany.
During the visit, the delegation visited NHRI Water Experiment Center (WEC), including the Test Hall of Navigation Structures, the Test Hall of Cavitation, the Test Hall of the Baihetan Project, and the Test Hall of the Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River. The representatives conducted on-site exchanges with NHRI experts and expressed their hope of carrying out more exchanges and cooperation on navigation structures and inland water transportation.
