Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute has cultivated hundreds of postgraduates with doctorate and/or master degrees for hydraulic, transportation and hydropower research since postgraduate recruitment was renewed in 1978.

Approved by the State Academic Degrees Office in 1981, the Institute is one of the first national institutions authorized to confer Doctorate and Master degrees of related disciplines. At present, the Institute has the postgraduate education programs for Ph. D. of Hydraulic Engineering (First-Class Subject), Ph. D. of Geotechnical Engineering, Hydrology and Water Resources, Hydraulic Structure Engineering, Hydraulics and River Dynamics, Hydroelectric Engineering, and Port, Coast and Offshore Engineering (Second-Class Subject), and M. Sc. of Geotechnical Engineering and other 8 disciplines. A Post-Doctorate Working Station in Hydraulic Engineering became its operation in 1999. There are about 150 doctor/master postgraduates currently.

The Institute attaches importance to tutors’ comprehensive faculty cultivation and tutors selection system. More than 31 tutors of doctor postgraduates have been appraised and appointed by the Institute itself, with the combination of old, middle-aged and young tutors.

The Institute performs the postgraduate education programs in conformity with the postgraduate administration regulations of the State Council and the Institute, the course scheme for postgraduates and the scholarship rules of the Institute. The basic professional courses are carried out with credit hours system in Hohai University, Nanjing University and South-East University. The Institute undertakes a great number of scientific research projects with sufficient financial support, therefore provides more choices and chances for study subjects and paper title selection of the postgraduates.
