President DAI Jiqun Attends 3rd EU-China Water Policy Dialogue and 11th High Level Dialogue of CEWP
On February 2nd, LI Guoying, Chinese Minister of Water Resources and Jessika Roswall, EU Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, jointly attended the 3rd EU-China Water Policy Dialogue in the morning session, and the 11th High Level Dialogue of the China-Europe Water Platform (CEWP) in the afternoon session, at the EU Headquarters in Brussels. At both meetings, Minister LI Guoying and Commissioner Roswall delivered keynote speeches and opening remarks respectively. NHRI President DAI Jiqun was invited to attend the meetings and delivered a keynote report on "Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources and China’s Response" at the High Level Dialogue.
The report systematically analyzed the severe challenges to water security under the backdrop of global warming, comprehensively introduced China's adaptive strategies and practices in water sector, and focused on presenting China's practical experiences in building an integrated "space-air-ground-water-engineering" monitoring and perception system, improving flood control at basins and the national water network construction, strengthening coordinated intelligent operation of basin-scale water projects, and advancing digital twin water conservancy construction, as well as scientific and technological breakthroughs achieved in fundamental theories, model development, and new equipment R&D. It showcased China's systemic solutions, solid engineering foundation, and continuous technological innovation in addressing water risk management in the context of climate change, providing important reference and direction for policy dialogue and practical cooperation between China and Europe in this field.
CEWP is a regional water cooperation mechanism jointly established by Chinese and European water administrative authorities in 2012, aiming to promote policy dialogue, joint research, and business cooperation in water sector between China and European countries. NHRI actively participates in CEWP's work, co-leading the "Sustainable Hydropower Use and Integration in China and Europe (SHUI-ChE)" research with the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management, and engaging in exchanges and cooperation with institutions, such as the BOKU University and the University of Florence in areas including policies and concepts, technical methods, equipment and devices, and successful practices regarding sustainable hydropower, small and medium-sized river governance, climate change response, and more.
After the meetings, President DAI Jiqun and his delegation visited the Flanders Hydraulics in Belgium, where both sides held discussions on topics such as cooperation in water sciences and technology innovation.
