NHRI’s 14 Achievements Honored at the 2025 Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology Award
Recently, the Award Committee of the Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology Award announced the results for the 2025 prizes. Our Institute was honored with 14 scientific and technological prizes, comprising 3 First-Class and 10 Second- and Third-Class Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress, and 1 Innovation Team Prize.
The project Key Technologies and Applications for River-Lake System Connectivity and Water Security Assurance, led by our Institute, conducted systematic research addressing fundamental theories, general technologies, and integrated applications for water security in river-lake system connectivity. It innovated foundational theories for the formation and optimization of river-lake connectivity patterns, developed general technologies for suitability assessment and management of water security in connected systems, and established comprehensive technologies for regional water security assurance through river-lake connectivity. The outcomes have been applied to water system connectivity and security practices in over 20 regions across China, earning the First-Class Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress.
Another project led by our Institute, Key Technologies and Applications for Intelligent Risk Management of Reservoirs and Dams under Complex Conditions, systematically tackled critical challenges such as risk assessment standards, diagnostic early warning, and intelligent prevention and control for reservoirs and dams in complex environments. It established China's theoretical and technical standard system for reservoir-dam system risk management and developed a set of intelligent risk control technologies for the entire lifecycle of reservoirs and dams. The achievements have been widely implemented in major water projects like the Three Gorges Project and Xiaolangdi Dam, significantly enhancing precise risk control capabilities for reservoirs and dams under complex conditions. This project also received the First-Class Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress.
NHRI’s Yangtze River Delta Water Security Innovation Team comprises interdisciplinary high-level talents. Focusing on water security in the Yangtze River Delta, it pioneered theories for improving water environments in plain river networks, constructed multi-scale intelligent nested models, and achieved breakthroughs in river-lake governance technologies such as large-scale physical simulation and high-flux algae control. The team established a digital twin and coordinated flood management system, and independently developed a series of equipment like algae control wells and all-in-one digital twin devices. Its achievements have earned over 10 national and provincial/ministerial-level science and technology awards, strongly supporting the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. The team won the Innovation Team Prize this time.
The Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology Award is an industry science and technology award for the national water sector in China, regarded as the most authoritative and influential scientific prize in the field. In 2025, a total of 80 prizes were presented, including 1 Special Prize, 11 First-Class Prizes, 32 Second-Class Prizes, 34 Third-Class Prizes, and 2 Innovation Team Prizes.
