On January 15, 2026, the First Meeting of the First Academic Committee of Chuzhou Modern Hydrology Field Scientific Observation and Research Station (referred to as the "Field Station") of Ministry of Water Resources (MWR), China was held in Nanjing. Attendees included NI Li, First-Level Inspector of Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, MWR, YANG Dan, Director of Department of Hydrology, MWR, HUO Chuanlu, Second-Level Researcher of Department of Flood and Drought Disaster Prevention, MWR, ZHANG Jianyun, CAE Academician and Chair of the Field Station's Academic Committee, Vice Chairs LIN Zuoding and LIU Jiufu, both senior engineers, and other 8 committee members. President DAI Jiqun of the hosting institution Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, along with Vice President GAO Changsheng, attended the meeting.

On behalf of the hosting institution, DAI Jiqun delivered a speech, expressing gratitude to the departments of MWR for their long-term guidance and support, as well as to all experts for their contributions. He stated that the Institute would advance organized scientific research at the Field Station, continuously improve its infrastructure, consistently produce high-quality outcomes, and strive to build it into a national-level field station in the field of hydrology.

On behalf of the competent industry authority, NI Li fully affirmed the construction achievements of the Field Station. She emphasized the need to focus on conducting field observation and scientific research within the specialized field of hydrology, in order to provide stronger and more robust support for the core work of the water resources industry.

Senior Engineer MA Tao delivered a work report on behalf of the Field Station. He provided a comprehensive overview of the Station's progress in recent years, highlighting key achievements in representative research output, industry support, talent team development, technical training, science popularization education, and open sharing. He also outlined the Station's future work objectives, development strategies, and key tasks. Following the work report, Senior Engineer WANG Guoqing, Senior Engineer LIAO Aimin, and Engineer ZHANG Lu presented three academic reports, titled respectively Processes, Transformation Mechanisms, and Numerical Simulation of Water and Material Transport in Critical Zone of Eastern Low Mountainous and Hilly Areas, Development and Application of New Hydrological Observation Methods and Technical Equipment, and Mechanisms of Pollutant Migration and Transformation Under Surface Water-Groundwater Interaction.

The Academic Committee fully affirmed the significant role played by the Field Station in fundamental hydrological theory research, applied basic research, and new technology development. The Committee engaged in thorough discussions regarding the Field Station's development positioning, research directions, and construction planning, offering a series of guiding opinions and suggestions. The experts unanimously agreed that the Field Station should further systematically organize historical observational data, expand the scope of observed elements, enhance intelligent monitoring capabilities, and develop original hydrological models. Additionally, they emphasized the need to strengthen science popularization education and water culture development, promote the spirit of scientists, enhance international exchanges and cooperation, and formulate a scientific and rational medium-to-long-term development plan, to drive the Field Station toward higher-quality development.

Prior to the meeting, attending experts and leaders conducted a field inspection at the Field Station in Anhui Province, visiting sites including the Hydrology Hill Experimental Site, the Nandawa Experimental Site, and the Integrated Hydrometeorological Observation Field.
