From June 26 to 27, 2018, China-ASEAN Youth Talents Exchange Program on Water Resources, hosted by the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center, organized by Hohai University and co-organized by NHRI, started its first station activities in Nanjing. 20 representatives from the ASEAN countries including Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, and the Asian Development Bank, participated in the exchange activities in Nanjing.
On June 26, the exchange activities were held at Hohai University. NHRI Prof. WANG Guoqing, and Senior Engineer HU Qingfang, made reports on water resources challenges under climate change, and urban flood control problems and countermeasures respectively. More than 10 NHRI graduate students participated in the activities as well.
On the morning of June 27, the representatives visited different test halls of Water Experiment Center (WEC) at Tiexinqiao, Nanjing, including the Test Halls of Navigation Structures, Large-Scale Unsteady Flow Vacuum Tank, the Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River, and Baihetan Hydropower Project. Through the field visit, the ASEAN young water talents deepened their understanding of China's achievements on water conservancy construction. The visit better publicized NHRI scientific research strength, and laid the foundation for future water cooperation with ASEAN countries. GAO Lihong, Division Chief of the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center, expressed his heartfelt thanks for the careful and thoughtful arrangement by NHRI.
Relevant staff from the President’s Office, Department of Personnel, Labor and Education, and Logistics Service Center accompanied their visit.
