Commemorative Certificate
On May 30, the Symposium of 100 Scientists and 100 Grassroots Science and Technology (S&T) Workers was held in Beijing to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). WANG Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a speech. He said it was important to study and implement the important instructions made by General Secretary XI Jinping at the opening ceremony of the 19th Academician Meeting of of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the 14th Academician Meeting of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. WANG also said that S&T workers should fully devote themselves to innovation practice, strive to climb to the S&T peak, and undertake the mission of building a world power of S&T. CAST Chairman WAN Gang hosted the Symposium.
The Symposium totally invited 100 senior scientists, leading personnel in key disciplines, representatives of outstanding young scientists, and 100 representatives of grassroots S&T workers whose stories were ordinary and moving. Prof. HU Ya’an, Deputy Director of NHRI Hydraulic Engineering Department, was recommended by China Institute of Navigation, and then was selected by CAST as one of 100 outstanding S&T workers in China to attend the Symposium.
May 30 is the National Day for S&T Workers. At the Symposium, the participants initiated a proposal of Striving to Build Chinese S&T Dream in the New Era to their counterparts in the country, and 11 of them made speeches.
On the morning of May 28, the Symposium participants attended the opening ceremony of the Academician Meetings and heard an important speech made by General Secretary XI. On the morning of May 29, they visited the Revival Road Exhibition and the Exhibition Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Marx's Birthday in the National Museum. On the afternoons of May 28 and May 29, group discussions were held.
Prof. HU wrote before the Symposium that we should study and implement XI’s S&T innovation thought on Socialism with Chinese characteristics for a New Era, aim at S&T frontiers, face the country’s major needs for inland navigation construction, vigorously promote the scientific spirit, strengthen collaborative innovation, and overcome difficulties. We should strive to build national pillar machinery with unremitting effort and courage, create glorious achievement in the field of navigation hydraulics research in the new era, and contribute to build a world power of S&T.
