Certificate On May 30, 2018, the 12th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award (GESTA) Conference was held at the Beijing Conference Center. LIU He, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the conference. Scientist XU Kuangdi won the Achievement GESTA, and 29 scientists in the field of engineering science and technology received GESTA, including 3 scientists from Hong Kong and 1 scientist from Taiwan. These two awards are granted every two years. Prof. CHEN Shengshui, senior engineer, doctoral supervisor, and Vice President of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI), won GESTA. The Award was reviewed by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Selection Committee of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. There are 30 winners out of 296 valid candidates this year. Prof. CHEN is the director of the Key Laboratory of Failure Mechanism and Safety Control Techniques of Earth-rock Dam of MWR, the chair of the Technical Committee of Geotechnical Mechanics of the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, the director of the editorial board of Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, and the winner of China Outstanding Dam Engineer for the first time. He has long been engaged in theoretical research on test technology and safety evaluation of earth and rockfill dam projects, and has presided over more than 20 projects, such as National Natural Science Foundation Projects, 973 Projects, and National Key Research and Development Projects. Prof. CHEN has achieved important breakthroughs in high earth-rock dam test technology and safety evaluation theory and high concrete faced gravel dams. He has won 4 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and 4 first prizes at the provincial or ministerial level. He has published 2 monographs and more than 140 papers, and 90 of them have been collected in SCI/EI. Prof. CHEN has presided over or participated in composing 11 national and industry standards, and obtained 16 national invention patents and 13 software copyrights. GESTA was started and funded by ZHU Guangya, the Vice Chairman of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and YIN Yanliang, DU Junyuan, and CHEN Youhao, industrialists from Taiwan region. This Award is approved by the National Science and Technology Awards Office and managed by the GESTA Foundation. It aims to reward Chinese engineers and scientists who have made outstanding achievements and important contributions in the field of engineering technology and management, inspiring their enthusiasm and creativity for research, development, and application of engineering technology. |
