From May 15 to June 4, 2018 Seminar on Water Resources Management & Small Hydropower Development for Countries along the Belt and Road, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) of China and organized by NHRI Rural Electrification Department (Hangzhou Regional Center for Small Hydro Power, HRC), was held successfully in Hangzhou. 43 officials from 14 countries along the Belt and Road, including Dominica, Ethiopia, Guyana, Kenya, Nepal, Palestine, Peru, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Zambia participated in the program. With the concerted efforts of all the lecturers, officials and HRC training team, the Seminar has achieved fruitful results. This was the 98th international training program organized by HRC.
During the Seminar, the officials heard lectures covering advanced technology and practical experience in water resources and small hydropower (WR&SH), visited the world-famous Three Gorges Project, typical hydropower stations and equipment manufacturers, and attended the 2nd International Symposium on Hydraulic Modelling and Measuring Technology co-hosted by NHRI, IAHR and Hohai University. Through these activities, they have built comprehensive understanding about technology and equipment manufacturing capability in WR&SH development in China. Furthermore, the officials delivered country theme report on WR&SH technical experience and specific practice. Based on full exchange and communication, the officials and HRC commercial and technical personnel further discussed related cooperation.
HUANG Dengping, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of MoC Training Center, XU Jing, Division Chief from MWR Department of International Cooperation and Science and Technology, FAN Aihua, Division Chief from the Department of Commerce of Zhejiang Province, DAI Jiqun, NHRI Vice President, JING Maotao, Deputy Director of MWR Dam Safety Management Center, and XU Jincai, HRC Director, were present at the Seminar closing ceremony and issued MoC course-completion certificates to the officials.
The Seminar was warmly welcomed and highly evaluated by the participating countries. It has laid a solid foundation for HRC to actively implement the guiding spirit of the Belt and Road Initiative, to carry out in-depth and friendly WR&SH cooperation with the countries along the Belt and Road, and to boost the export of Chinese production capacity.
