Discussion with NHRI Staff 

On May 8, 2018, Vice Minister of Water Resources ZHOU Xuewen, leading a delegation composed of Director-General ZU Leiming and Deputy Director-General XU Yuanming of MWR Department of Construction and Management, came to NHRI and MWR Dam Safety Management Center (DSMC) for inspection and instruction.

At DSMC, Vice Minister ZHOU and the delegation, accompanied by NHRI President ZHANG Jianyun, cordially visited the staff and had a discussion with them. The Vice Minister heard a work report on DSMC made by SUN Jinhua, Director-General of DSMC and Vice President of NHRI. He pointed out that since its establishment 30 years ago, DSMC had done a huge amount of work in reservoir dam safety management for our country, and the contribution was indispensable and fruitful. He hoped that DSMC would continue to improve the basic database construction of reservoir dams, further promote the reservoir dam registration, and further strengthen the construction of safety supervision platform for reservoir dams to make the platform the most advanced open platform in China.

Vice Minister ZHOU had a meeting with NHRI cadres, and heard the report made by President ZHANG on the development of NHRI, and its technical support to the management of water resources, promotion of the river (lake) chief system, and construction and management of major projects in recent years.

Vice Minister ZHOU fully affirmed the remarkable achievements made by NHRI in recent years. First, the party's construction has been further strengthened. The party group of MWR has fully recognized the party construction in NHRI. Secondly, the research findings are fruitful. NHRI has obtained many major scientific research results which have been well applied. Thirdly, the economic benefit is growing gradually. NHRI is high-ranking among the water research institutes in China in terms of the funds of scientific research projects and technology development projects. Fourthly, a large number of high-level talents in water resources have been trained, and their work have provided important technical support for MWR core tasks. They have solved many complex technical problems, making great contributions to the reform and development of water sector.

Vice Minister ZHOU hoped that NHRI would implement the spirit of General Secretary XI Jinping’s important speech on national water security, closely focus on flood control security, water supply security, and ecological security, and with the advantages in science, technology and talent, continue to play a supporting and leading role in the construction of flood detention areas, flood control of small and medium-sized rivers, safety management of reservoir dams, implementation of the most stringent water resources management system, actions of the national water conservation, guarantee of ecological flow for rivers, restoration of ecology, and construction of smart water conservancy.
