Specialists from US Cal Poly Pomona Visit NHRI
Post Time:2017-03-14Front:[ Large Medium Small ]

On the morning of Mar. 10, 2017, Prof. Xudong JIA, Chair of Civil Engineering Department, California State Polytechnic University – Pomona (CPP) and Lisa XUE, Director of Global Education Institute, CPP visited NHRI. Prof. JIA made a report titled Water Quality Management in US and California. The report was chaired by Vice President LI Yun, and more than 70 staff and graduate students with NHRI International Cooperation Office, Graduate Faculty, Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Research Center for Eco-Environment and Information Center attended the report.

Prof. JIA first gave an overview of CPP, and demonstrated its beautiful campus and teaching concept of “Learn by doing”. In his report, he focused on the introduction of American water quality management in aspects of historical background and process, management pattern, water right system, protection acts, water reuse technologies, environmental and ecosystem considerations, and watersheds and water resources administration in US.  Taking California short of water resources as an example, he explained the general situations, development history and water right trading system of “Wholesale-Retail-Customer” of state water project and Colorado River Aqueduct for Southern California. He also reviewed the development and contents of Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act, and showed relevant cases of water reuse technologies and fish passages.

After the impressive report, a heated discussion was held between Prof. JIA and attendees, which broadened the vision of NHRI researchers. Vice President LI Yun and directors with Department of Hydraulic Engineering and International Cooperation Office had a brief discussion with visitors for future cooperation intention.
