On Aug. 9, 2015, MWR Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology (DICST) organized an acceptance meeting in Nanjing to assess the MWR public-good research project “Preliminary Study on Floodwater Utilization of Danjiangkou and Major Control Reservoirs” undertaken by NHRI. The expert panel consisted of experts withHohai University,Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute, Hai River Water Resources Commission,Sun Yat-sen University, CAS Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Huai River Water Resources Commission and Department of Water Resources in Jiangsu Province. After listening to the research results report, the expert panelunanimously agreed that the project had reached the expected research targets with comprehensive fulfilled research tasks, abundant research results and outstanding progress. In view of the water source of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project – the Han River Catchment, an assessment method of catchment floodwater utilization was constructed, and the floodwater utilization quantity and potential of the current situation and planning conditions were evaluated in the project.Schemes of stage control and dynamic control of limit water levelsand classified flood scheduling in the Danjiangkou, Ankang and Pankou Reservoirs were proposed.A multi-purpose comprehensive assessment model of floodwater utilization was constructed. Reservoir floodwater utilization risks and comprehensive benefits were quantitatively assessed. And the overall utilization strategy and risk control measures of catchment floodwater were put forward. The research findings have been applied in the survey and assessment of water resources in the Han River Catchment and operational scheduling of the Danjiangkou Reservoir, and have provided important technical support for the formulation of Water Allocation Scheme of the Han River Catchment, flood control and utilization capacity improvement of the Danjiankou Reservoir, and enhancement of its integrated water resources management. ZHU Shoufeng, DICST director, DAI Jiqun, NHRI vice president and relevant colleagues with MWR Budget Execution Center and research team were present at the meeting. |
