meeting On Oct. 14, 2015, MWR Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology (DICST) organized an acceptance meeting in Beijing to assess the MWR public-good research project “Assessment, Forecast and Treatment Technology of Frost Damage of Irrigation Canals in Salt and Cold Areas” led by NHRI.The expert panel consisted of 9 experts with MWR,Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Hohai University,Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute, etc., and Prof. QIAO Shishan, former Counsel of DICST, acted as the panel leader.Colleagues from NHRI Department of Scientific Research Management and Department of Geotechnical Engineering, MWR Budget Execution Center and research team were present at the meeting. In view of the salt frost damage of irrigation canals in salt and cold areas of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, asystematic in-depth study is conducted by this project. The first set of centrifugal modelling system in the world is successfully developed to simulate the whole process of freeze-thaw cycles of various canals. The safety assessment method and index system are first established for the frost damage of canals in salt and cold areas. It is the first time that an experimental base of canals is constructed in salt and cold areas, and an automatic monitoring, analysis, assessment and forecast system of frost damage is developed.A new comprehensivecanalstructure is proposed by utilizing cement bond sand cushion, compound geomembrane and cast-in-place concrete slabs for seepage-proofing and anti-frost so as to develop a set of quick repairtechnologies of frost damage in canals.A complete set of equipment for mechanized lining is developedfor large canals in salt and cold areas so as to form a compound mechanized construction method of canals. Major research findings of this project have been applied to the repair and construction of large water conveyance canals in north XinjiangUygur Autonomous Region with good social and economic benefits and significant value of popularization. 5 national invention patents, 11 utility model patents and 1 software copyright are obtained, 1 monograph, 1 manual of construction methods, 1 technical guide and 30 papers published, and 5 graduate students trained within the frame of this project. Relevant research findings are included in national standards. After listening to the research results report made by Prof. CAI Zhengyin, project leader, the expert panelunanimously agreed that the project had reached the expected research targets with comprehensive fulfilled research tasks and abundant research results. |
