Ecological Informatics

SPECIAL ISSUE

Aim and Scope:

The complex interaction between ecosystem dynamics and social-economic development is a challenging subject, which is more obvious in urbanization. The special issue aims at high-level discussions on the advances of theory, technology and cases about using informatics for ecosystem research. It will provide a chance for academic and decision-making professionals to exchange recent progress of theory and method to investigate the anthropogenic impacts on ecosystem, particularly urban systems. Topics of relevance include but are not limited to the following areas.

1. River development and conservation

Including water quality modelling, aquatic ecosystem modelling, environmental and ecological flow, habitat modeling and conservation, eutrophication modeling and algal bloom forecasting, etc.

2. A broad outline of the character and composition of the resources and energy required sustaining all urban activities

Including land transformation, modifications of energy, hydrological and nutrient cycles, economic agglomeration, industrial intensification, population attraction and waste production.

3. Determining and maintaining levels of sustainability and health in cities around the world

Including the contribution of cities to global warming, opportunities for better management of waste electronics and storm water, and the use and fate of phosphorus—a resource that is both potentially scarce and polluting, etc.
